South Thailand Flash Floods Heavy Rains

Southern provinces warned of flash floods

BANGKOK: — The Meteorological Department Thursday warned residents of 10 southern provinces to brace themselves for heavy rains and possible flash floods.

In its daily forecast issued at 4 am, the department said heavy rains could fall in Chumphon, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Trang, Satun, Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat.

The heavy rains would be unleashed by the strong monsoon over the Gulf of Thailand and Andaman.

    8 feared dead after their houses buried in mudslide in Narathiwat

    NARATHIVAT: — A mudslide following three days of torrential rains buried two houses here, causing eight people to be accounted four.

    The mudslide happened at a hillside village in Tambon Si Sa Khon of Si Sakhon district at 11 am.

    The mudslide completely buried the two houses. The eight people were inside and were feared dead.

    They were identified as Saleh Salae, Asiyoh Salae, Koyah Salae, Mahamad Salae, Siyoh (surname unknown), Haman Salae, Arissa Salae and Rihan Salae.

    4 districts in Surat Thani declared flooding disaster zone

    SURAT THANI: — The provincial administration here declared four districts as a disaster zone.

    The four districts are Chaiya, Tha Chana, Don Sak and Chai Buri.

    The provincial administration said the floods affected 144 villages in 18 tambons and caused a total damage of Bt15 million.
