Voting for new PM may be postponed
The voting for the new prime minister could be postponed after PPP MPs from the North and Northeast, who disagree with the party’s idea of nominating sacked premier Samak Sundaravej, reportedly contacted the opposition party and asked it not to show up at the parliament.
Sanoh Thienthong, leader of Pracharaj party, which is a coalition party, said his MPs would not attend the session either.
Somsak Prissananantakul, deputy leader of Chart Thai party, another coalition party, told reporters in the morning that he would not go to the parliament.
“I’ll go there in the afternoon,” he said.
Chart Thai party was holding a meeting at the party head office in the morning to discuss how the party would proceed next after the PPP resolved to back Mr Samak as prime minister again.
Meanwhile, Mr Samak, leader of People Power party (PPP), arrived at the parliament shortly after 9am Friday ahead of the voting for new premier by lawmakers.
He left his car with a smile before entering into the parliament building. He did not give a word to reporters.

Chart Thai, Democrat and Pracharaj parties boycot House session
Chart Thai, Democrat and Pracharaj parties have announced that their MPs will boycott the House session to choose new prime minister.
The decisions may cause the session to be postponed.
People Power Party is scheduled to nominate Samak Sundaravej to be prime minister again despite the fact that he was disqualified for the positon by the Constitution Court for violating the charter earlier this week.
Isaan Development Group of PPP insists it will not support Samak
The Isaan Development faction of People Power Party Friday insisted its stand that it will not support the re-nomination of Samak Sundaravej as the next prime minister.
The group led by Somsak Kiartsuranon, Piraphan Palusuk, Phaichit Sriworakhan and Srimuang Charoensiri, held a press conference to reaffirm its stand against Samak’s nomination.
A source from the faction said the group would propose House dissolution if the party was unable to find a better choice of PM than Samak.
