NTC to prepare for complications of caller ID blockage
National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) Secretary General Suranant Wongwitkumjorn stated that the NTC is currently discussing measures in anticipation of problems that may arise from the ability of individuals to call without showing their caller ID. The commission is looking into legal aspects of protection for both callers and receivers.
The NTC affirms though that at the moment it has prioritized the right of privacy and the right to communicate, but it will continue to review how these rights apply to displaying caller ID’s. The NTC states that ambiguity arises when considering that callers have the right to shield their ID’s while receivers have the right to know who is calling them.
Some projected problems will be soliciting phone calls that become a public nuisance. Nonetheless, the NTC states that it will create its measures based on already existing laws.
