Thailand is enjoying increased income from tourism after being voted the best destination for value for money.
Tourism and sports minister, Suvit Yodmani, said that this week plans will be discussed of how tourism in the country can be further boosted.
Mr Suvit said that during the first quarter of 2007, revenue from tourism rose by 9.6 per cent to $4.1 billion from the same period last year.
Visitors from foreign countries also increased by 5.4 per cent, constituting a grand total of 3.82 million tourists. The number of tourists from Europe was also up by 12 per cent.
This news comes as a 2006 survey by FutureBrand showed Thailand was considered the best value-for-money location in the world and was also ranked ninth in a poll of the most beautiful tourist destination.
The Thai government committee will meet now on Tuesday to plan how best to boost high-end tourism throughout the rest of 2007.
An artificial island near Phuket is planned to attract rich tourists who may wish to moor yachts.
