Saturday, January 20, 2007 at 07:20 EST

BANGKOK — A 38-year-old Japanese gangster has been arrested in central Thailand for alleged drug dealing, authorities said Friday. Lt Gen Suwat Tumrongsiskul, chief of the Thai Immigration Bureau, told a press conference that immigration police detained Minoru Nagashima on a Japanese arrest warrant.

Japan issued the arrest warrant, revoked his passport, and urged the Thai authorities to arrest Nagashima after learning that he had traveled to Bangkok in July 2006. Nagashima allegedly admitted being a member of an underworld gang and told police he came to Thailand because he planned to open a casino and use the casino for money laundering, drug trafficking, and also human trafficking.
