BANGKOK, Nov 1 (Bernama) — Malaysia-based GHL Systems Bhd, a leading payment solutions enabler in the region, has secured deal to install its NetMatrix TLE in Thailand aimed at curbing credit card fraud.
The deal with Krungthai Card Public Company Ltd (KTC) is believed to be the first in the country to adopt line encryption solution for its payment infrastructure.
GHL Systems’ deputy group managing director Yeng Fook Hoo said the deal was secured by its five-month-old Thai subsidiary, GHL (Thailand) Co Ltd.
He said the NetMatrix TLE solution was a comprehensive terminal line encryption (TLE) solution that effectively secured the exchange of information between a merchant’s electronic draft capture terminal and the bank’s host server.
“The solution ensures credit card transaction information is encrypted while being transmitted via telecommunication lines, thus hindering attempts to clone credit cards through wire-tapping,” he said Wednesday.
Yeng said the deal was timely following the recent discovery of wire-tapping incidents in Thailand’s tourist island of Phuket.
The company has also been awarded a contract to deploy more than 3,000 fully-encrypted electronic draft capture terminals for KTC, with almost 1,000 of these terminals having been installed at KTC’s merchants within and outside Bangkok to ensure payment transactions are carried out in a secure manner.
“We believe that the installation of NetMatrix TLE and the subsequent deployment of encrypted terminals will play an essential role in boosting the nation’s tourism industry,” Yeng said.
He said the NetMatrix TLE adhered to the guidelines set by Visa International, and has passed stringent security evaluations by banks in Malaysia and now Thailand while the electronic draft capture terminals also complied with the chip-based EuroPay-MasterCard-Visa (EMV) requirements.
Yeng said in addition to preventing wire-tapping or line-tapping, the NetMatrix TLE also offered a multi-faceted approach to ensure transaction security in that it addressed other fraud tactics such as ghost terminals and host spoofing.
He also said that GHL Systems, listed on the Mesdaq Market of Bursa Malaysia, was negotiating with other banks in Thailand and other countries in the region to implement similar security systems for their card transactions.
Currently, GHL Systems has made inroads in Bangladesh, Brunei, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Thailand, Pakistan, the Philippines and Sri Lanka.
